Dear Harper Lee.
Thank you for your words and for your non-conformist style. You said what was needed to be said at the time when no one wanted to hear it.
In the world where self-promotion has become an essential survivalist’s trait, you showed how creating a testament that touches people’s life champions its own legacy.
Thank you for showing us how one can never really understand a person until we consider things from their point of view. “Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
Growing up, we always wished that I could be part of the Finch family. Remembering the ham costume! Thank you for giving us the book To Kill a Mocking Bird. Every time we read the book we feel that we are a part of the family.

When we first read the book To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus was our hero. Then you showed us the flawed side to our hero that was as pitiful as it was painful. But such revelation came at a time when we were dismissing all the aspects of the world that were taught to us as glorious and right.
Thank you for giving us the book that helped us form a context of history and hope that no books around us gave us when we were kids. Kids not growing up in America.
There won’t be another Atticus. There won’t be another Harper Lee.
